Even though I am also having issues with the schwintek, I find replacing motors, harness and controller pretty simple to do even for me. There are a lot of videos on how to go about replacing the gear racks, bearing blocks etc that would require more skill but also not something I hear is a problem unless slide was not installed properly or user did not operate it properly.
One thing I would verify before I buy another RV with Schwintek is to measure the installation on the box and racks before purchase. On page 9 of the linked manual is a walk through a visual inspection of the slideout. It would be easy enough to do to ensure it was installed correctly. Also look at where the controller is and how difficult it would be to access the motors when slide is retracted. How easy is it to replace a harness? If I can’t get to the motors without taking apart the slide, I won’t buy the unit.
